The Power of Staying the Course

You may not see it today, but every lesson is building something your child will carry for a lifetime.
— Camille Hastings

There’s a funny thing I’ve noticed over the years… I have never—not once—met an adult who said, “I’m so glad I quit music.”

What I have heard, over and over again, is:
“I wish I had stuck with it.”
“I wish my parents had made me keep going.”
“I wish I could still play.”

As the owner of Leading Note Studios, and as someone who has watched thousands of students grow, that pattern tells me everything I need to know about commitment.

Music is one of those rare things in life that truly lasts forever.

It’s not just about learning notes or finishing a song. It’s about building something deeper—confidence, focus, creativity, and yes… even stronger math and problem-solving skills along the way. But more than anything, it’s about having a lifelong outlet. A place you can go when life gets busy, stressful, or overwhelming.

And here’s the part I want every parent to hear:

It’s not just about learning notes or finishing a song. It’s about building something deeper—confidence, focus, creativity, and yes… even stronger math and problem-solving skills along the way. But more than anything, it’s about having a lifelong outlet. A place you can go when life gets busy, stressful, or overwhelming.

And here’s the part I want every parent to hear:
It doesn’t require perfection.

Your child does not need to practice every single day to benefit.
They don’t need to be “all in” every minute.

Just showing up each week, sitting down with a great teacher, and engaging in the process creates growth—often in ways you don’t even see right away. Those small, consistent moments add up to leaps and bounds over time.

Now, does that mean every student will love their first teacher, instrument, or schedule?
Of course not.

Sometimes the magic isn’t there… yet.

That’s why we’ve built something a little different at Leading Note Studios. We have a family of musicians. If something isn’t clicking, we adjust.
Different teacher.
Different instrument.
Different day or time.

Because when the right fit is found, everything changes.

I also want to gently challenge a common habit:
Taking a break from music for sports season, summer, or “when things slow down.”

The truth? Life doesn’t really slow down.
And music doesn’t compete—it complements.

It becomes the calm in the chaos.
The creative outlet after a long day.
The place where kids (and adults!) can breathe, reset, and feel proud of themselves.

Music has this incredible ability to take you somewhere else… somewhere peaceful, joyful, and a little bit magical.

So whether you’re just starting, picking it back up, or helping your child stay the course—keep going.

Because years from now, you won’t hear,
“I’m so glad we quit.”

You’ll hear something much better:
“I’m so glad we stuck with it.”
